This position offers you the opportunity to play a key role designing outdoor digital signage products that are unique in the marketplace, working with major name clients in diverse industries and solving unique challenges. As an individual lead contributor in a multi-disciplinary design team, you will design hardware enclosures incorporating mechanical, opto-mechanical, and thermal solutions. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have significant industrial design experience in the full life cycle development of mechanical systems, including designing outdoor enclosures. You also will need strong proficiency with SolidWorks and direct experience with agency certifications such as UL, FCC, C-TICK, CE, and CSA; familiarity with NEMA and IP standards is strongly preferred. We're looking for a professional with a track record of developing innovative solutions to challenging problems.

Delphi Display Systems designs and manufactures a wide variety of outdoor digital signage products serving the quick service restaurant (QSR), petroleum retail, and other market verticals. Applications include drive-thru order confirmation, digital menu boards, gas-pump top video displays, outdoor information kiosks and more. What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:

• A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; however, we will consider candidates with degrees in other areas of engineering as long as they have significant relevant experience.
• Training in and practical experience with geometric tolerances, dimensions, surface finishes, and material selection, and a full understanding of how to operate programs based on ANSI standards.
• Training and experience with thermal design, including familiarity with cooling of high-density electro-mechanical assemblies and printed circuit card assemblies using standard and innovative heat transfer techniques.
• In-depth knowledge of sheet metal fabrication (aluminum and steel) sealed electronic enclosures design and conduction cooling techniques.
• Thorough working knowledge of mechanical packaging and sheet metal enclosures with emphasis on NEMA 4X-6 enclosures.
• Project management/leadership skills with an emphasis on supplier development, selection, and management.
• Experience leading small teams through the development of projects from the design to pilot phases of production.
• Excellent decision making and problem solving skills.
• Knowledge of mechanical documentation, configuration management (CM), and maintenance process management.

Preferred but not required:

• Opto-mechanical knowledge and experience.
• Familiarity with thermal modeling.
• Experience with heat pipes and TECs.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Joining an engineering team of seven, you will report to the Engineering Manager and also work closely with the VP of Operations. The majority of your activities will be project driven, and you will contribute to multi-disciplinary teams as the subject matter expert in outdoor hardware enclosures. At any given time you can expect to be involved with two to four projects of varying scope and duration; a revision of an existing product may be a two-week project, whereas for a brand new product you may produce initial drawings within six to eight weeks.

For the most part you will work independently, although you will coordinate your efforts with other Engineers. You'll provide expertise in the areas of mechanical, opto-mechanical and thermal design, analysis, and simulation, and develop innovative concepts and solutions for electro-mechanical systems. This will include developing suppliers and driving project development from concept through pilot production phases. All enclosures must meet NEMA-4X and IP 65 enclosure ratings.

More specifically, your objectives will include:

• Designing and engineering integrated electronic enclosures, cabinets, and thermal systems.
• Establishing and meeting performance, cost, and schedule goals while balancing various tasks at one time.
• Developing multiple solutions, performing cost/benefit analysis.
• Interfacing with Production in support of subcontracting the mechanical fabrication.
• Interfacing directly with customers and clients in design reviews and technical meetings.
• Tracking project status (including budgets, development schedules, milestones, and action item lists) and reporting to management on a weekly and monthly basis.

To excel in this role you will take a proactive approach to getting up to speed quickly on existing projects you'll take over. This function is well organized, but you will need to hit the ground running in order to stay on schedule. In addition, in order to be an outstanding Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

• Manage your time effectively in order to deliver high quality work to firm deadlines.
• Leverage your interpersonal skills to interact effectively with multiple stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and team members within Delphi.
